ABOUT MEFrancesc SERRA VILA
My passion for performing arts has been within me from early times. And this particular way of seeing things is highly influenced by my architecture background.
Since obtaining my diploma in architecture in 2009, I have focused my professional career as project draughtsman, working at La Monnaie, Royal Swedish Opera, English National Opera and Welsh National Opera. Since 2013, I combine this job with my own projects: these are mainly installations that integrates set design, performance and the public space. Developed on my own or in collaboration with other artists (dancers, choreographers, sound and lighting designers), they have been presented in London, Brussels, Cardiff, Swansea and Barcelona. Artistically, I am after a kind of creations in which people can get close to, around and especially into; they can be experienced with as much senses as possible. Another aspect that interests me is the multiple possibilities that these structures offer. They are based on the principle that they can be modified or evolve. These alterations, made by performers, visitors, the surrounding or the structure itself, wish to highlight the moment, the present. Eventually, I like to incorporate the place in which the installations are located from an early stage of the creative process; in addition, working on the public space emphasize my wish to make interventions accessible to as much people as possible.
